Mazda 6 sedans primarily come with gasoline engines. However, during each of its generations, Mazda produced at least one diesel motor, with two distinct ones coming out during the second generation. Additionally, you can also find a handful of Mazda 6 engines that are turbocharged.

These are the different sizes of Mazda 6 engines that have been produced:

  • 1.8L - This engine (the MZR L8), which is an inline 4-cylinder motor, is no longer in production, but you can find it for sale used or refurbished.

  • 2.0L - 2.5L - The MZR LF and the MZR-CD are the 2.0-liter versions of the Mazda 6 engine and are inline 4-cylinder motors. The MZR-CD runs on diesel, and there is a 2.2-liter version of it as well. There's also another 2.2-liter diesel engine available called the SkyActiv-D SH-VPTS. It's an inline 4-cylinder and was first produced in the third generation of Mazda 6s. The other 2.0-liter is the SkyActiv-G PE-VPS, which is also an inline 4-cylinder engine that runs on gasoline.

  • 3.0L - 3.7L - Mazda 6 3.0 engines and 3.7s were made in the first and second generations of Mazda 6s, respectively. They are both V6s. Although they are no longer manufactured by Mazda, you can still pick them up used for a low price.
