Teeth Restoration With CAD/CAM Technology

Dental conventions love to display the latest in dental CAD/CAM Technology. Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) devices have reduced the cost and time required to replace diseased and broken teeth. Sirona is a prominent manufacturer of CAD and CAM software and hardware for chairside dental offices and dental laboratories.

Types of CAD/CAM technology available

For use in a dental facility, a wide variety of CAD/CAM technology and equipment is typically used. Among the different uses for CAD/CAM technology are:

  • Scanning – Precision scanners can provide high-resolution capture of veneers, inlays, onlays, crowns, and bridges. Working models can be scanned using stripe light projection.
  • Design – For even the most sensitive dental needs, detailed design can offer precise configuration of general, implant, and prosthetic models.
  • Production – Exact items can be made for crowns, bridges, and frameworks incorporating a variety of materials.
How does Sirona CEREC work?

Cerec stands for CEramic REConstruction. Sirona CEREC technology scans and designs the new customized tooth, then it mills the tooth from the digital scan. The new scanned tooth is then implanted in the patient's mouth. This entire process takes about an hour and can replace a partial crown, a complete CEREC crown, or a veneer.

Difference between CEREC SW and HW

Your dental clients may require just a CEREC software package (SW) such as the Sirona CEREC 3D software. Or, they may require a complete CEREC Sirona dental system (HW) such as the 2016 Sirona CEREC AC Omnicam with a 2015 MC X Wet/Dry Mill and a SpeedFire plus a Programat CS. Or, they may just need one device or a few of the CEREC Sirona devices. Among these devices are:

  • Acquisition Scanner - The Bluecam and Omnicam are optical scanners used by dental practitioners to acquire individualized digital images of the patient's tooth and surrounding teeth.
  • Milling Machine - The Serona 2015 MC X Wet/Dry Mill machine takes the digital image and grinds a new tooth from Sirona CEREC blocks. The CEREC dental blocks can consist of ceramic or zirconium material that lasts for 10 to 30 years.
  • Sintering Furnace - The Sirona SpeedFire is the smallest and fastest sintering furnace in the industry and can sinter a crown in 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Ceramic Furnace - The Sirona Programat CS is a ceramic furnace with a color touch screen and a membrane-sealed keypad with 20 individual programs.
Options available for obtaining Sirona CEREC devices

Depending on the size of the dental office or dental lab, Sirona CEREC devices can be purchased brand new. Additionally, you can also purchase them used on eBay.
