Why is Computer RAM So Important?

As much as all the parts of a computer server a function RAM or Random Access Memory is where the real work takes place in a computer. A computer serves no useful purpose without RAM, and RAM directly affects the computer's speed. One of the biggest reasons people upgrade their computers or replace them is for more RAM and increased speed.

Why Should I Care So Much About RAM?

  • Performance: Whether it is a laptop or a desktop, your RAM and the CPU determine how well your computer works. The more RAM you have the easier and faster the CPU carries out its tasks. Low RAM space means the CPU has to work more to transfer data and this interferes with the computer's performance.
  • System support: Every piece of software in a computer requires a minimum amount of space to be able to run efficiently and RAM provides the memory you need for all the software to run smoothly. insufficient random access memory leads to the slow performance of the computer and sometimes software might not run at all.

How Can I Know the Type of NEC RAM on My Computer?

If you're looking to upgrade your PC, then you should be more careful when getting a replacement RAM since different types of RAM are incompatible with each other. Older versions of Windows (Windows Vista and Windows 7) required you to either open the CPU casing or use a third-party software to find out the type of RAM installed. However, with windows 8 and 10, there is a revamped Task Manager that automatically checks and displays the type of RAM on your PC. The following are the steps on how to detect the type of RAM in a laptop or desktop.

  • Press Windows-W to open the Settings page of the Search charm.
  • Type Task Manager into the search box and select the View System Resource Usage in Task Manager search result. The Task Manager opens.
  • Click the “Performance” tab, and then select the Memory side tab.
  • Check the upper-right side of the Task Manager window to see the type of RAM on your computer. Different types of RAM include DDR SDRAM, DDR2 SDRAM and DDR3 SDRAM. However, the Windows 8 Task Manager omits the SDRAM part, and simply displays RAM type as DDR, DDR2, DDR3 or DDR4.

What Are the Different Types NEC Random Access Memories That Run Today’s Computers?

Whether it's on tablets, desktops, graphing calculators, laptops, handheld gaming system or HDTVs, RAM serves the same purpose. The different types of RAM usually integrate into a module, or memory module. Here are the different types

  • Static RAM (SRAM)
  • Dynamic RAM (DRAM)
  • Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDRAM)
  • Single Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDR SDRAM)
  • Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM
  • Graphics Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM
