Optimize Your LAN with a Network Tool Kit
Whether you have a small network at home or manage a complex business setup, a computer network toolkit can put everything you need at your fingertips. Never search for the right tester, crimper, or screwdriver again. At eBay, you'll find a wide range of new and pre-owned networking toolkits that include everything you need to work productively and efficiently.
What are network tool kits? These toolkits are designed for home computer users and IT professionals alike. Kits often come in a soft or hard case that is easy to have on your person, and the tools and supplies included are generally geared toward common networking environments. Cable tools, for instance, will be appropriate for Ethernet cables. Some of the tools that you can expect to find in these kits include:
- Cable testers
- Cable crimpers
- Wire strippers
- PC screwdrivers
- Connectors and cable heads
No. Ethernet cables are generally the same in regard to cable thickness, physical internal wiring, connector types and so forth. The difference lies in the specification'such as how much data can be transmitted in a certain period. Practical tasks related to the cables will be similar, and this should apply even to future iterations of the CAT standard, such as CAT 8 and CAT 9, due to networking standards.
What is a cable tester and how is it used?A cable tester in a network toolkit is designed to test ethernet cables. You can use it to ensure a stretch of cable is working before attaching connectors and wiring it up. It can also be helpful to rule out damaged cables when troubleshooting networking problems. Testers can be simple and just indicate success or failure, or they can be advanced and actually provide diagnostics. Using a tester is relatively simple. Disconnect the cable to be tested from any power source or packaging, and then, visually inspect it for damage. If it passes inspection:
- Put one end of the cable into the tester
- Put the other end into the remote
- Turn the tester on
- Note the results
- Set the test up again and confirm
Magnetic screwdrivers, pliers, and so forth can make it easier when working with the small metal screws and other parts that are common to computer environments. This allows you to place a screw in a tight, tiny environment without worrying about dropping it into an unreachable place. Many technicians prefer them for this extra layer of safety and efficiency. The magnetic charge in hand tools is generally not considered strong enough to interfere with motherboards, hard drives and other computer equipment.
